Kim Restaurant, Potts Point

Kim Restaurant, Potts Point
There’s a certain magnetic charm that draws me to all things Korean. So when I first heard about a new modern Korean restaurant opening up in Llankelly Place, Potts Point opposite Wilbur’s Place, I was excited to gather the girls for a dinner at Kim Restaurant. Modernised classic dishes reign the menu with a few I’m keen to go back for more and some I’ve yet to try. Whilst we were perusing the menu, we were given a really addictive plate of sweet potato ‘fries’ mmmm.. definitely was a good start to the meal!

Haemul pajeon - Pancake, squid, prawns, octopus, shallots $14
Pajeon not as you know it. Most Korean restaurants I’ve been to serve this as a flat pancake with seafood mixed into the batter. This was soooo much better! The seafood pieces and shallots were lightly tempura battered and crisp, then tossed together to combine like kakiage. Definitely an addictive must-try dish!

Stomp! Wines, Broke
Start the morning off at family owned boutique cellar, Stomp! Wines, where you’ll be welcomed by Michael, a passionate winemaker with a chemical engineering background, and Meredith the friendly face of the Cellar Door. Be filled with enamour by the captivatingly rich shades of red wine stains on some of the furniture made from old wine barrels by their son (who’s still in high school!), a great eco-friendly way to recycle the barrels.

Sit outside amongst the lush scenery with the wind gently blowing through your hair as you taste the wine selection from Stomp! and their cheeky Pssst ‘n’ Broke selection. I recommend beginning (and maybe ending too!) with an aperitif of sparkling Stomp! Vivace Frizzante which is a definite favourite of mine, it’s summery and vibrantly bubbly with subtle hints of Turkish Delight.

Salt & pepper squid, yuzu mayonnaise, Thai herb salad dressed with tamarind, chilli and lime sauce
gf $18
Beloka sparkling mineral water 750ml $7
Parker’s organic sparkling apple & lime juice $5.5
It’s hard to go wrong with salt and pepper squid and this salad sure did deliver! The balance of flavours of sweet, chilli, salty and sour will leave you salivating with each bite. The sizes of the entrees are very generous so I would recommend sharing unless you’re feeling quite peckish.

Angel hair pasta with blue swimmer crab, chilli, rocket, garlic and grana pandano $19
Delicate strands twisting around my fork, glistening in fragrant crustacean scented oil with the shreds of blue swimmer crab dotted throughout the dish. My favourite type of pasta is angel hair which I find pairs very well with seafood, particular crustaceans so it was easy to decide which of the entrees to have!

Afternoon Tea - Four Seasons Hotel, Macau

Windows Restaurant - Four Seasons Hotel, Macau
Oh how I miss the holidays and how quickly has this year gone by!  It feels like only last weekend I was in Macau enjoying an exquisite afternoon tea at the glamorous Four Seasons Hotel. A blink of the eye and it’s 6 months down the track already and stores are already in full swing being decked out with Christmas decorations. If you’re ever in Hong Kong or Guang Zhou, I urge you to make a trip to Macau, the City of Dreams. Everything is grandiose and it’s like being in Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Italy! The city is always buzzing and never switches off. A great way to wind down and indulge is to sink into the plush leather armchairs whilst sipping jasmine pearl tea from a gorgeous Versace tea set :) The high tea set is a twist on the classic afternoon tea but it was a delight to devour. My favourite was the lemon curd and coconut tarts which were to die for; tangy and oh-so-smooth in a buttery shortcrust pastry tart shell.
